  1. Really enjoyed this podcast. I liked the slide of life angle it took. I may be in the minority, but I didn’t think the story needed any of the “texture” sound effects. The storytelling was strong enough on its own.

    1. Hi Arun,

Could you elaborate on what you mean with “texture sound effects.” I help out with Scott’s audio so it might be useful info for me as well. Glad you liked the show!

      1. Hi Steve,

First of all, great job. I can’t believe this is the “episode 1” of a podcast, it sounds so professional and the perspective of the podcast is so clearly articulated immediately.

There’s a part of the podcast where Graham is describing when he was proposed to. There’s all this background noise meant to evoke what it was like at the Harry Potter thing (forgetting some of the details). The confusion and chaos and joy of the moment. The thing is, for me it just felt like it was obscuring what was already a really well-wrought story. The words were enough to take me there, especially since Graham recalled the event with such detail clarity. Generally I love the mix of the podcast, and when Scott interjects, intro/outro music, etc. but that other stuff just makes it feel a little too “produced.” Again, could just be me.

Thanks for asking. I wish you and Scott the best of luck, with as many as episodes as you want to make. I’ll review the podcast (positively, I promise!) everywhere I can.

        1. Ah, I see now!

Actually Scott does 99% of the audio mixing and editing. He has come a really long way since starting out last year.

I’ve been producing for over 20 years and can attest audio has a deceptively steep learning curve but Scott’s tackled it and done a pretty great job IMO, and getting better with every show.

I agree with your take on the backing audio in that instance, the “bar scene.” It could perhaps be quieter. But in general I do like the little touches that enhance the storyline.

We’ve both been on a major time crunch handling different things ahead of that episode but all things considered it came out pretty damn good I think.

When things settle down a bit I’ll talk with Scott a bit about possibly honing some of the rough edges here and there (which is what I’m supposed to be doing anyways, I guess!)

In general I know Scott goes for a “homemade” feel and not too over-produced which is my aesthetic as well. In that respect I’m sure he agrees with you for sure.

          Once again, really great feedback!
